Astra Militarum / Imperial Guard Bastions
I painted these up years ago, finally photographed them with my new setup.
I also have the Aegis Defense Lines, Quad Guns, and an additional coms relay & and Icarus Lascannon painted up (not pictured)
3T Studios Terrain Collection
Best terrain maker I’ve seen is 3T-Studios.
I’ve been collecting some of the terrain for a few years, and finally got around to photographing it.
Video Monitor for Terrain
I’m super excited to have commissioned a pretty ambitious terrain project with the best miniatures terrain maker out there.. 3t studios. Long story short, I’m looking to have them create ‘inertia cradles’ for my reaver titan and my two upcoming warhound titans. In my mind I’m picturing gantries, cables, gothic/imperial architecture, etc.
Because I’m not very good at moderation… I’m also envisioning combining two of my hobbies… miniatures and micro-controllers. So… I’m working to embed video panels into the terrain piece. I’m envisioning a “1984 Orwellian” face proclaiming imperian 40K propaganda (probably “The emperor protects!”) and some smaller screens with what look to be moving dashboards showing the state of each titan.
I’ve actually made great progress… I purchased a 3.2″ LCD display module from 4DGL systems, an Australian company. Fortunately, Sparkfun resells their products so I don’t have to wait for trans-pacific shipments.
Finally, moments ago, I actually got video playback working for the first time! Obviously the video displayed in the terrain piece wont be a of my dogs… but hey, it works!
Imperial Strong Point
Finished the Games Workshop Imperial Strong Point! This took me just over three weeks, blew through almost an entire bottle of Vallejo Acrylic Polyurethane Primer, and an entire dropper bottle of Reaper MSP 9176 Military Green. The airbrushing went great, although I had some issues keeping my drybrush dry while trying to cover such large surfaces. I didn’t apply the same level of precision I try for on individual miniatures as it’s just too much surface area to cover within a reasonable amount of time. All the parts for both the bastions and the Aegis defense lines were airbrushed directly on the sprue after removing as many of the sprue supports as possible… this modulated the color on the different panels a lot, perhaps too much.
First Terrain Board

Here is the first completed terrain board! It is 2 2′ x 4′ 1/2″ plywood sections covered with a base of 1″ extruded ‘blue’ insulation foam, and then up to two additional 1″ layers of foam formed into hills. A Hotwire Foam Factory 8″ Pro Hot Knife was used to cut out the river and form the hills.

Board freshly coated with aragonite sand sprinkled over watered down PVA glue.
